Itanagar, August 22: The number of illegal Bangladeshi migrants is increasing in Arunachal Pradesh, threatening the demographic composition of the state, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Swami Vishwaatmananda has said
Nearly 15 to 20 per cent of patients treated at the mission's hospital here were illegal Bangladeshi migrants, he told a public meeting here last evening.
"If the trend continues, the Arunachalees would lose their culture and identity soon and they would become a minority in their own land," he said.
Vishwaatmananda said divisive forces were encouraging people to cross over to India illegally with ulterior motive.
Former BJP state unit President Taba Hare and other speakers at the function appealed to the people to unite and see to it that illegal Bangladeshi migrants did not get shelter in Arunachal after being driven out of Assam.
