Pseudo-Secularism

Hindu dharma is implicitly at odds with monotheistic intolerance. What is happening in India is a new historical awakening... Indian intellectuals, who want to be secure in their liberal beliefs, may not understand what is going on. But every other Indian knows precisely what is happening: deep down he knows that a larger response is emerging even if at times this response appears in his eyes to be threatening.

Amarnath issue exposes Congress' convoluted secularism facade: BJP

New Delhi, Jul 4: The Bharatiya Janata Party today said the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) land transfer issue had exposed the convoluted secularism facade of the ruling Congress with people across the country wondering how it sacrificed the faith of millions to stay back in power.

The incident had opened the eyes of people of all communities all over India against the 'convoluted secularism' being propagated and followed by the ruling party, said party general secretary Sushma Swaraj.

Speaking at the party induction ceremony of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) national women wing head Latika Sharma, she said people were wondering how in a country of 100 million people, 100 acres of land could not be alloted for a deity, who was dear to millions across the nation.

Ms Swaraj also said people would no longer accept this policy of appeasement where the government succumbed to outside pressures while reiterating the party's commitment to stand for ''all in the country'' and dispelling the perception that it was anti-Muslim.

The general belief that the BJP was anti-Muslim was a false notion and was unfounded, baseless and part of a misinformation campaign by people with vested interests, she said.

''The party was not against any community or sect, but certainly opposed to those who spoke against the country's national ethos and cultural heritage'' she added.

Stressing that the BJP was against the negative mentality which opposed anything that was rooted to the nation's culture and heritage, Ms Swaraj said the notion of the saffron party being anti-Muslim was convolution of facts.

''The BJP was against the mentality which did not accept singing of 'Vande Mataram', which advocated human rights of terrorists, and which violently protested transfering of land to SASB and it is not against Muslims.'' Party general secretary Vijay Goel also said in unequivocal terms that the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board would immediately be alloted 100 acres of land as soon as the BJP came to power at the Centre and Lal Krishna Advani became the Prime Minister.
