'Muslims staying in India after 1947 must love their country'
New Delhi, April. 1 (PTI): Former Pakistan Prime Minister Chaudhury Shujaat Hussain, today said Muslims who had chosen to stay in India after the partition should love their country and not have any doubts about their decision.
The visiting Pakistan Muslim League (PML) leader, who offered prayers at the historic Jama Masjid here, also said that the "intentions" of his country regarding the ongoing peace process were "honest".
Addressing hundreds of devotees who had gathered for the Friday prayers, Hussain said he had brought with him greetings from President Pervez Musharraf.
"In 1947, you had made a choice to stay in India and there should be no doubts about the decision," he told the congregation.
"You are Indians and your love for India should be strong."
Hussain was accompanied to the 16th century mosque in the walled city by Pakistan High Commissioner Aziz Ahmed Khan, and members of a PML delegation, including party General Secretary and Senator Mushahid Hussain and Senator Wasim Sajid.
Expressing hope that the peace process would yield results soon, Hussain, considered close to Musharraf, said "hamari niyat saaf hai (our intentions are honest)."
Hussain later interacted with senior Muslim leaders including the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari.
