Haj: DMK wants restrictions to go

Chennai, Aug 5: The DMK has said that all those who had applied to go on the Haj pilgrimage from Tamil Nadu should be permitted to do so.

In letters to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh, DMK president M Karunanidhi said, "I understand that 3,939 applications have been received by the Tamil Nadu Haj Committee against 3,004 available seats for 2005-06."

In a press release, Karunanidhi said he had received a number of representations from the 'concerned Muslims' seeking removal of restrictions imposed on the number of seats for the Haj pilgrimage.

Karunanidhi said that during his tenure as the Chief Minister of the state, all those pilgrims who had applied were permitted to go on the Haj pilgrimage. (Our Correspondent)
