Pseudo-Secularism

Hindu dharma is implicitly at odds with monotheistic intolerance. What is happening in India is a new historical awakening... Indian intellectuals, who want to be secure in their liberal beliefs, may not understand what is going on. But every other Indian knows precisely what is happening: deep down he knows that a larger response is emerging even if at times this response appears in his eyes to be threatening.

Muslim League in soup over dishonouring national flag

DH News Service Thiruvananthapuram:

Almost a year after the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) created a stir by hoisting its party flag atop the terminal building of the Kozhikode International Airport, the party has found itself embroiled in a similar controversy now. This time around, the League leaders hoisted the national flag below their green party flag during the Independence Day celebrations organised by a local IUML unit in Ernakulam district.

Reports reaching here from Muvattupuzha said that the party leaders refused to correct their mistake though this discrepancy was pointed out to them by local people.

Sources said it was after the RSS workers took up the matter that a League worker lowered both the flags in the afternoon. The Ernakulam District Collector has asked the Revenue Divisional Officer to investigate the matter and submit a report to him.

Protest

Several organisations including the Kerala Freedom Fighters Association and the Sangh Parivar have questioned the police inaction when the national flag was being dishonoured. Sources said no arrests have been made so far though intelligence officials have begun questioning the leaders responsible for the incident to ascertain whether it was done deliberately.

The incident has happened in the backdrop of the increasing clout of the fundamentalist organisation National Development Front (NDF) among the IUML cadres. The NDF organised ‘freedom parades’ at four places in the State on Monday which was attended by huge crowds. Tension prevailed at several places as RSS-BJP workers threatened to disrupt the functions.

Inaugurating the parade at Pathanamthitta, All India Muslim Personal Law Board working committee member Maulana Anizoor Rahman Khasimi said that minorities in India were being sidelined.
