NEW DELHI: The BJP on Monday charged Congress President Sonia Gandhi with making "selective condemnation" in the wake of 'Vedanti fatwa' controversy and blamed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for "keeping quiet" on such an important issue.
"Sonia Gandhi has condemned the statement made by former BJP MP Ram Vilas Vedanti against DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. But, she is making selective condemnation," senior BJP leader M Venkiah Naidu told a press conference here.
He said while Gandhi spoke about Vedanti's statement, she had not made any remark against former Samajwadi Party leader Yakub Qureshi who had said that anyone beheading a Danish cartoonist for hurting the religious feelings of Muslims would be given cash reward.
"Selective condemnation and double standards on communal lines are root cause of social tension in the country," he said.
Naidu showed a re-printed version of the original Constitution of India, published by Parliament, to show that it contained pictures of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna.

He said Gandhi should spell out UPA's stand whether she was in agreement with Karunanidhi, otherwise she should ask DMK to withdraw from the alliance. "If they don't withdraw, DMK ministers should be dropped from the Government," he said.
Naidu accused the UPA of destroying the basic culture and heritage of the country.
He said different ministers and different allies were speaking in different voices "and the Prime Minister is keeping quiet on such an important issue".
Referring to the attack on BJP offices in Tamil Nadu, he alleged that the demonstrations were led by DMK Ministers "and still the Centre is keeping silent".
"Unless Congress apologises and the Prime Minister clarifies, the issue will remain," he added.
