After 50% reservation in AMU, muslims want more
This is what pseudo-secularism will lead one to...
"We have always supported reservations for minorities," Jamiat General Secretary Mahmood A Madani, told reporters here at the briefing on the organisation's 28th general session to be held at the Ram Lila grounds in New Delhi.
"For the last 10 years we are demanding reservations for Muslims and our Constitution also provides for this," he said, but added that reservation is not the only solution to problems ailing the Muslim community.
"We have to address the issues plaguing us, mainly providing basic educational facilities to Muslims, fulfilling which seat reservation at the university level will have any meaning," he said.
"The AMU's decision is long in coming, this should have been done years ago," he said dismissing concerns that the step would contradict the AMU Act which bars discrimination in granting of seats on religious lines.
Maintaining that he was not averse to seat reservation in other educational institutions, including the Jamia Milia Islamia, Madani said he would press forward his demands at the session which over 6,000 delegates and members of the Jamiat were expected to attend.
The Jamiat would now press the Government to extend reservation in other fields as well, including Government and semi-Government jobs, Parliament and State Assemblies, he said.
