Pseudo-Secularism

Hindu dharma is implicitly at odds with monotheistic intolerance. What is happening in India is a new historical awakening... Indian intellectuals, who want to be secure in their liberal beliefs, may not understand what is going on. But every other Indian knows precisely what is happening: deep down he knows that a larger response is emerging even if at times this response appears in his eyes to be threatening.

Parsis, Jews are the only minorities, says RSS chief

JALANDHAR, SEPT 28: RSS chief K S Sudershan on Wednesday declared that Parsis and Jews were the only two minorities in the country, as only their ancestors had migrated to India from foreign countries, while all others were of Indian origin.

Talking to mediapersons here, Sudershan said the ancestors of 99.99 per cent of Christians and Muslims were of Indian origin, hence they could not be considered minority communities. ‘

The RSS chief, who refused to comment on the notice issued to him by the National Minorities Commission, said: ‘‘You can’t call yourself a minority by merely changing the way of worship,’’ he remarked.

Asked to clarify whether he thought Sikhs formed a minority community, he said he had already made his point clear. ‘‘Remember, Guru Gobind Singh had formed the Khalsa panth for the protection of the Hindu religion, and he had also given three types of Sikhs—Sehaji, Charani and Khandi,’’ he said.

Parrying questions on recent conversions in the city, the RSS supremo said his organisation had always been against conversions either through force or allurement.

Urging the Church to Indianise, he said he had taken the issue up at a meeting with Bishops in Kerala. ‘‘I had stressed that the Church should come forward to stop such conversions,’’ he said.

On relations between the BJP and the Sangh, Sudershan chose not to make any comments. Instead, he chose to speak about patriotism and the need to set one’s religion aside in order to serve the nation.
