Pseudo-Secularism

Hindu dharma is implicitly at odds with monotheistic intolerance. What is happening in India is a new historical awakening... Indian intellectuals, who want to be secure in their liberal beliefs, may not understand what is going on. But every other Indian knows precisely what is happening: deep down he knows that a larger response is emerging even if at times this response appears in his eyes to be threatening.

DMK revives EVR’s hate campaign against Hindus

By Malarmannan

One of the important resolutions passed by the working committee of DMK at its meeting held on February 16 under the presidentship of Shri M. Karunanidhi urged the people of Tamil Nadu to literally ‘drive out’ from the Tamil soil the three per cent of the population. The resolution reminds the people of Tamil Nadu that they are 97 per cent of the total population whereas their traditional enemies are just three per cent. The resolution did not specify as to who were these three per cent but those who are used to the Tamil Nadu socio-political scenario know pretty well that it refers to none other than Brahmins in the State.

Since 1920s, Dravidian Movement has been spearheading a hate campaign against Brahmins branding them intruders from Khyber and Bolan passes into Tamil Nadu, corrupting the chaste Tamil culture and tradition. It may look ridiculous at the very first glance, fit to be thrown into the dustbin without a second look but strangely, EVR and his Dravidar Kazagam party could sell this concept to the gullible illiterate and semi literate people of Tamil Nadu. This concept was conveniently based on Aryan-Dravidian theory, cunningly constructed about two centuries ago by the wily Caldwell, a Christian missionary and proselytiser, who wanted to divide Hindu society so that he could easily convert the non-Brahmin communities calling them Dravidians, a separate entity. Despite Brahmins of Tamil Nadu speaking Tamil only at homes as their mother tongue and several of them had done great service for the development of the language and culture, they were described as aliens to Tamil language and culture.

In fact, it was U.V. Swaminatha Iyer, a great Tamil scholar, who toiled to recover many ancient Tamil works from old palm leaves that were briskly being dined by white ants. Those deteriorating palm leaves were scattered in different parts of the State and he spent his time, energy and hard earned money in search of them and made them available in print. As he was not financially sound, he begged and borrowed so that the precious wealth of the Tamils could see the light of the day. Subramanya Bharati, another Brahmin, woke up theTamils from their slumber in the early twentieth century with his spirited poems so that they could become aware of their rich heritage. There are still many Brahmin scholars and researchers who are silently engaged in varied fields for the development of Tamil language and culture.

The most harmful disservice to the Hindu society in Tamil Nadu by E.V. Ramaswami Naicker, known as EVR and popularly addressed as ‘Thanthai Periyar’ by his followers meaning “Father Greatman”, was to divide it on the lines of Brahmins and non-Brahmins. This venom has spread all over Tamil society and has become a permanent syndrome visible at least feebly in every segment from academic circle to contemporary literary gatherings to cultural events, from social activities to political considerations.

The anti-Brahmin propaganda has lost its verve over a period of time, but it is still dormant in Tamil Nadu. M. Karunanidhi has been its sole revivalist, whipping the dead horse as and when he does not find suitable rejoinder to any valid accusation. When the AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa, his arch rival, compared him with Ravana the demon king recently, Karunanidhi could find recourse in his pet theory of ‘Aryan-Dravidian,’ though disproved by expert anthropologists. For him and his party, Brahmins are Aryans and all Non-Brahmins are Dravidians, for reason best known to them only.

Quoting Nehru’s ‘discovery’ that Ramayana was nothing but the narration of Aryan-Dravidian war, Karunanidhi donned the warrior of Dravidians and Jayalalithaa the representative of Aryans, as she happens to be a Brahmin, caste wise.

As the legend goes, Ravana was the son of a Brahmin sage, should be an ‘Aryan’ according to the findings of Dravidian pundits but it did not occur to Karunanidhi in the heat of political rivalry. He could only remember Nehru’s discovery about Ramayana and grabbed the role of Ravana! However, he could not find a suitable villain role of an Aryan character for Jayalalithaa.

Interestingly, EVR was also not kind towards the depressed classes. His concern was only about the welfare of the second and third strata of the society. For him, the top and the bottom segments of the society were to be kept at bay so that the in-between communities could climb up the ladder of prosperity. When there was acute shortage of foodgrains and clothing, an aftermath of the Second World War, EVR attributed it to the “untouchables’ becoming ‘cultured.’

There was great uproar against EVR in 1948 from the depressed classes in the State for his utterance that the price of the cloth had gone up because the women of ‘untouchables’ had also started wearing blouse and all of them have learnt to dress decently. Their staple food had changed from millets to rice and that made the rice scarce. Rice was considered the choice of the upper classes and millets were fit for the poor and downtrodden only according to the social standards. Taking exception to EVR’s observation, there were demonstrations by many associations of depressed classes all over Tamil Nadu demanding apology from him. But EVR was adamant as usual and never cared to express regrets over his ‘findings!’ The issue died down in course of time.

Now that Jayalalithaa is a Brahmin, Karunanidhi has taken up the rusting anti-Brahmin slogan from his dust-gathering political weaponry, forgetting that he is not just the president of a party but occupying the seat of the Chief Minister of the State also. He can seldom allow under his nose, a resolution that would create enmity among the people, thereby encouraging serious law and order unrest to brew.

Our Constitution has categorically stated that it is a punishable offence to induce hatred against one particular community and attempting to divide the people on that score. And Karunanidhi holds the post of the Chief Minister having taken oath of sincerity and be honest to the Constitution. If the Chief Minister himself spearheads a hate campaign against one particular community in the society, it would be seen as the green signal to anti-social elements in the State to indulge in all sorts of crimes towards that community and it would also strengthen the division among Hindus in Tamil Nadu on the basis of Brahmins and Non-Brahmins.

Obviously, saner elements in the society expect unanimous condemnation from all quarters to the DMK’s hate campaign resolution. The Centre should also view this seriously and warn Karunanidhi that it did not behove of a Chief Minister to behave irresponsibly.

Sonia's anti-Hindu perfidy & Baalu's Dravidian falsehood

V SUNDARAM
newstodaynet.com

There is an unholy and dynastic political marriage between the anti-Hindu perfidy of Sonia Gandhi and the Dravidian falsehood of T R Baalu. More than 800 millions of Hindus in majority in India and several millions of Hindus outside India in different parts of the world heaved a sigh of relief when the VHP, the RSS and other sister Hindu organisations, acting together under the auspices of SHRI RAM SETHU RAKSHA MANCH, DELHI, organized a massive rally on Ram Lila grounds in New Delhi on 27 May, 2007 to protest against the decision of the Islam-embracing, Christianity-caressing and Hindu-hating UPA Government in New Delhi to destroy for ever the sacred Ram Setu Bridge in Rameshwaram which has held the hearts of Hindus captive for trackless centuries. Every self respecting Hindu in India knows today that the dastardly politically criminal plot to blow up the Ram Setu Bridge in order to destroy the soul of India and to demoralize the Hindus of India by making them refugees in their own native land, was taken by the treacherous trio consisting of a non-Hindu called Sonia Gandhi and two known Anti-Hindus belonging to the Periyar anti-Hindu perfidy tradition called T R Baalu and Karunanidhi. For this tricky trio the political survival of the rickety, shaky and shakeable UPA's collusive Coalition in New Delhi is more sacred than the soul of Barath Mata.

Addressing the massive rally, VHP president Ashok Singhal, thundered like Winston Churchill against Nazi tyranny during the dark days of II World War, when he said: We give an ultimatum to the UPA Government to stop the planned destruction of Ram Setu in Rameshwaram forthwith. The Hindu Saints, Sages and Seers of India have set 22 July, 2007 as the deadline for the Government of India to honourably withdraw from the path of Pseudo Secular Anti-Hindu destruction of Ram Setu, failing which an unprecedented, uncontrollable and unimaginable national agitation, will be launched not only to protect the sacred Ram Setu but also to heroically defend the timeless honour, self respect and dignity of the Hindus of India. There will be a DHARMA SANSAD in Delhi on 22 July, 2007 in which the saints from all parts of the country are expected to participate. The democratic battle cry of all the Hindus today who are firmly committed to the deathless cause of the eternally sacred Ram Setu Bridge can be summed up in these words: unflinching, unswerving, inflexible, indomitable and irrepressible-into broader lands and better days, freed from the draconian anti-Hindu tyranny and dictatorship of the Sonia-directed UPA Government in New Delhi

Ashok Singhal
Praveen Togadia
Dr Subramanian Swamy

Explaining the conspiracy behind the demolition of Ram Setu, Ashok Singhal said that the people of Europe do not want to recognize the history and culture of Bharat and all of them want to destroy it. That is why they refer to Shri Ram and Shri Krishna as mythological characters. The British in the days of the RAJ treated them as mythological figures and not as historical heroes. And now Sonia Gandhi, with her supreme contempt for Hinduism and all things Hindu, also holds the same colonial and European view. All of them do not recognize the period of Indian history prior to the Buddhist era. They feel that if the history of RAM SETU is accepted, then the historicity of Shri Ram will get proved and established. That is why Gandhi went to inaugurate the SSCP in Madurai on July 2, 2005, keeping in mind her avowed mission of destruction of RAM SETU by hook or by crook through the good offices of T R Baalu and Karunanidhi.. He asked the question: Why should the Government of India be bent upon spending Rs 2400 crore in a wasteful manner on the SSCP by dredging the Ram Sethu in Rameshwaram? If it adopts the alternate route by digging a canal in the barren land, the project will cost only Rs 1200 crore. Thus there will be a massive saving of Rs.1,200 crore in which the faithless and irresponsible Shipping and Transport Minister is not interested at all.

While addressing the massive Hindu rally in New Delhi on 27 May 2007, Ashok Singhal rose to great heights by mobilizing the glorious Hindi Language and sending it into battle to save the precious Ram Setu Bridge. The vast concourse of people participating in the rally responded in raucously enthusiastic affirmation to this clarion call of Shri Singhal by loudly shouting the slogan of 'JAI SHRI RAM' and 'JAI SHRI RAM'. According to some of my friends from the Civil Service who were present at the rally, the boisterously violent anti-UPA Hindu mood of thousands of people, was very much reminiscent of the hectic days of the storming of Bastille in Paris in France on 14 July,1789. I am delighted to hear from them that the popular mood of the Hindus at that rally was very much akin in spirit ( if not in letter) to the explosive public mood of the suppressed and oppressed French people during the days of the French Revolution in 1789 and the Russian people during the days of the Russian Revolution in 1917.

VHP general secretary Dr Praveen Togadia declared: If it were Mohammed Ali Sethu, instead of Ram Setu, the Manmohan Singh Government taking hourly instructions from Sonia Gandhi, would not have dared to touch it. Besides preserving it, the Government would also have declared a special subsidy for the devout Muslims to visit it, drawing inspiration from the politically spiritual message of the disgraceful Justice Sachar Commission. The Government of India is working round the clock to destroy the identity and culture of the Hindus. Ram Sethu is a Punya Teerth for all of us and we will not allow anyone to destroy it at any cost. The Governments of Egypt and China are spending crores of rupees to preserve their ancient sites but our anti-Hindu Government is spending cores and crores of rupees to destroy our ancient sites, which are internationally important.

Speaking at the massive rally, senior BJP leader and former Human Resource Development Minister Dr Murli Manohar Joshi gave a detailed account of his visit to the site at Rameshwaram and also the indisputable scientific facts about the Ram Setu. He said those who claim that it is not Ram Sethu are the biggest liars.

Janata Party president Dr Subramanian Swamy called upon the people to be ready for a bigger battle. He said: The main battle today is between 'OM' and 'ROME'. 'OM' (Hindus of India) would defeat 'ROME' (Soni Gandhi). Greatly moved by the inspiring and incandescent words of Dr Subramanian Swami, massive crowds attending the rally went into a state of ecstatic frenzy when he declared in Hindi:

"Aane waala sangharash hoga Om aur Rome ke beech. Jeetega Om. Naash kerenge Rome bhatkti. Vijaysri hogi Om shakti" (The imminent bloody battle is between OM and ROME. We will destroy ROME BHAKTHI! Hail victory for OM BHAKTHI !!)

All the Hindus of India are very happy that Dr Subramanian Swami has issued a clarificatory and self-explanatory, indeed a historic statement, yesterday to the effect that the Government of India are abandoning their plans to breach RAMA SETU. The following facts are seemingly coming to public view following his statement:

1. The Government of India deputed the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachouri to fly by special plane to Jhoteshwar, Madhya Pradesh to meet Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, one of the Jagadguru Shankaracharyas at his Ashram. Suresh Pachouri, met him yesterday afternoon to seek the Acharya's help in containing the growing VHP-led agitation for protecting the Rama Setu.

2. It is reliably understood that Pachauri told the Acharya that the Centre has decided to abandon the plan to breach the Rama Setu for the Setu Samudram Canal Project, and that it is seeking 'an amicable way out'.

3. It is learnt from my sources in the Government of India that the Prime Minister has also told the Union Shipping Minister, T R Baalu 'not to touch the Rama Setu'.

4. After a one-to-one talk with Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati at the latter's Ashram at Jhoteshwar near here for about 20 minutes last night, Pachouri told UNI that he would convey to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other Ministers concerned about the discussion he had with the Shankaracharya.

6. After the talks, Swami Swaroopanand told UNI that he was optimistic that the central government would forthwith stop the demolition of the Ram Setu as it is a centre of religious faith for Hindus.

The nation as a whole is highly amused by the reported news item that Sonia Gandhi wants to corner the glory and the credit for saving Ram Setu making the stellar role played by the VHP and the RSS in organizing the country-wide movement for the protection of Ram Setu trivial and insignificant. When Mahatma Gandhi called off the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1922 following the Chauri Chaura Massacre in UP, he called it a HIMALAYAN BLUNDER. He said If I make a mistake, I will not hesitate to retrace my steps and claim from the housetop that I was wrong. Thus there was nothing mysterious or nefarious or subterranean about the ways of Mahatma Gandhi He was both moral and humble. We cannot expect Sonia Gandhi to follow Mahatma Gandhi's example because she is neither moral nor humble. She can only re-enact a sham Dandi March or organize the humbug of a World Satyagraha Conference. Today's disgusting and disgraceful Congressmen fall at her feet only because of her such imperious qualities!!

Say you are a Dravidan and hang your head in shame

9/25/2007 9:40:55 AM B.R.HARAN24

DRAVIDAN ENRU SOLLADA; THALAI KUNINDHU NILLADA!

The state wide violence unleashed by the DMK cadres with the alleged connivance of the state police, under the leadership of Ministers, Mayors and MLAs, on the instigation of a senior cabinet minister with the knowledge of his party leader and Chief Minister, is most condemnable.

This state-sponsored violence was unleashed, despite the withdrawal of the statement by Ramvilas Vedanti, former BJP MP from Ayodhya .The alliance parties (PMK, DK, VSK, Congress & Communists), which in no time condemned the attack on the house of the CM's daughter in Bangalore, consequent to his insensitive & denigrating remarks on Lord Rama, didn't bother to condemn the violence perpetrated on the offices & residences of the BJP / VHP / RSS and Hindu Munnani leaders and that shows their total disregard to democratic principles and that has shown their lack of courage too.

The central government, which lost no time in condemning the Bangalore incident (surprisingly no loss of sleep this time), kept quiet on the DMK's statewide violence and instead, the UPA Chairperson Sonia supported the violence in the name of "fight against the communal forces". When compared with the Chief Minister's insensitive diatribes against Lord Rama, the silly statement issued by Ramvilas Vedanthi, a non-entity in Tamil Nadu, pales in to insignificance. When one can comment on a "Saami" (God), what is wrong in one commenting on an "Aasami" (Man)?

The TMMK (Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam) leader Jawahirulla's comments against the BJP & RSS are unwarranted and his unnecessary interference in an issue involving DMK, BJP and Ramayana must be condemned in the strongest of terms. He had ridiculed the statement of Ramvilas Vedanti, which was misreported as a 'fatwa' by the media. He must be reminded that he belongs to the community, which issues 'fatwas' at anything & everything and that there are hundreds of fatwas still alive in this country, ranging from Salman Rushdie's case to Taslima Nasree's case. One wonders what business he has got to do with this issue and what right & authority he has got to comment on BJP! Incidentally, Jawahirulla was attached with Al Umma and he was a compatriot of Al Umma leader Basha along with the present TMMK president Hyder Ali during the attack on RSS headquarters in Chennai during 1992, in which 11 Swayamsevaks lost their precious lives. Jawahirulla & Hyder Ali left out with Basha (a planned move) and started the TMMK before the Coimbatore Blasts, as they anticipated the ban on Al Umma after the blasts.

The DMK & its allies are hyping the worthless SSCP as a project of unimaginable development in the name of Tamil & welfare of Tamils, while actually it is expected to benefit only a handful of 'Dravidian' leaders and their ilk . Instead of leading the people of the state along the line "Tamizhan enru sollada, Thalai nimirndhu nillada!" (Say you are a Tamil and keep your head high), the DPA leaders are misleading the people along the line "Dravidan enru sollada, Thalai kunindhu nillada!" (Say you are a Dravidan and hang your head in shame).

The fact of the matter is that, the central government has understood the inevitability of shelving the useless project due to various reasons, but the state government could not digest the fact and hence is venting it's purported anger against the central government on the BJP and other Hindu organizations! If the state government accepts the center's decision without any protest, it will lose its face and the misled people will cry foul and hence this drama.

The end result is that, this SSCP - Rama Sethu issue has made the people of this country (both believers & non-believers) to indulge in "Rama Namasmarana" that is thinking of Lord Rama and chanting his name, on a daily basis. "Ramlila" has started and very soon the people of this country in general and DMK / DK in particular will realize that Lord Rama is not an imaginary character, but the 'Avatar' of the Almighty God!

DMK revives antagonism for religion

Sreenivasan Jain,Daniel, Sanjay Pinto
Tuesday, September 25, 2007 (Chennai)

The DMK claims its views on Lord Ram is just a legacy of its ideology of aggressive rationalism.

But many sait's a legacy that's past its sell by date and that Drvaidian politics has long made peace with mainstream religion.

It's films like Paraskati that became a vehicle to spread the aggressive anti-religion ideology of the Dravidian movement and of Periyar - its founder.

But the compulsions of electoral politics in a deeply devout state like Tami Nadu made CM Annadurai - Periyar's successor - take a more benign view of religion with his credo - one community, one God - a credo that ensured a gradual cooling of the raging fires of Dravidian rationalism.

Today in 2007 this is not uncommon when Karunandhi shares a stage with Sai Baba and with another local godman, Jakki Vasudev.

Karunanidhi's son MK Stalin also seeks divine intervention during an election campaign in Chennai. DMK party cadres also made its peace with mainstream religion.

Former speaker Parithi Ellamvazhuthi is a devotee of Lord Muruga and former speaker Palanivelrajan is also a religious person.

So why then the sudden anti-Ram outburst? What does Karunanidhi have to gain?

To Dravidian scholar MSS Pandian this new outburst reminds him of a similar volatile moment almost two decades ago during a conference in Salem in 1971 hosted by Periyar.

Today's Parasurama for the cause of Rama Setu

V SUNDARAM
newstodaynet.com

More than 800 million Hindus in India and several millions of Hindus abroad are delighted by the following observation of the Madras High Court, while dealing with the two writ petitions filed by Dr Subramanian Swami, President Janata Party and Shri Ram Gopal, President of Hindu Munnani seeking Interim Injunction against the destruction of the Ram Setu Bridge: Be it man- made or natural, the Ramar Setu should not be touched. I had requested two very senior lawyers with established legal practice and reputation for several decades to watch the High Court proceedings yesterday relating to the petition filed by Dr. Subramanian Swami. Based upon their brilliant summary of rapier-like legal arguments and points presented by Dr Subramanian Swami, I would like to present below the main thrust of Dr Swami's arguments by way of information in order to give immediate emotional solace to the shattered and battered Hindus of India who have tragically become stateless refugees in their own mother-land.

Dr Subramanian Swami's arguments for the grant of an Interim Injunction (WP 18223-4) by the Madras High Court on 18 June, 2007 were as follows:

1. The main purpose in seeking an injunction is to preserve during it's pendency in the Honourable Madras High Court the subject matter of this Petition, namely the protection of the Rama Setu which is threatened by the clear and present danger of demolition by Setusamudram Canal Project Corporation (Respondent No5 .), which is the nodal agency for dredging [AIR 1983 Delhi 312, AIR 1971 Raj.293, AIR 1973 Mysore 799, and 1984 TNLJ 218].

2. As of 13 June, 2007, the Sethusamudram Canal Project Corporation [sethusamudram.gov. in/projectstatus.asp] has claimed that dredging work has been carried out to excavate 8.96 percent of the Rama Setu. See also Counter p.7, para 11. THERE MAY BE MALAFIDE INTENTION BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT IS LED BY ATHEISTS WHO REVEL IN DEMEANING SRI RAMA. They call the Setu as built by Sri Rama as mythical [p.5, para 8 of Counter]. So was Sarasvati River and Dwaraka city at one stage. After extensive archaeological surveys, it has been scientifically and categorically proved that they physically exist on Mother Earth. Likewise, Ram Setu is a physical fact which can be discovered through an organized underwater archaeological survey and exploration. Without undertaking such a survey, if it is viewed as mythical and fit for demolition, then why is it that the Setusamudram Canal Project Corporation is planning to construct a viewing gallery as a part of the SSCP [please see page 20 of the Counter]. The Supreme Court of India in several judgements have held that even mythical objects may be ancient monuments or sacred [AIR 1958 SC 1032 at para 7, p.1035 & AIR 1993 P&H 204 at paras 7, 8, 9, and 10]

Hence, it is alarming and lack of injunction will cause irreparable and irretrievable damage to the relief sought in this petition.

3. It is well settled by a catena of judgments of the Supreme Court and High Courts[ AIR Manual, Civil and Criminal, 6th Edition by Manohar &Chitaley, 2004]that the essential ingredients for invoking the discretion of this Honourable Court to grant an Interim Injunction against the dredging work on or near the Rama Setu are primarily THREE:

[A] The existence of a prima facie case of the petitioner.

[B] The necessacity of the High Court's interference to protect the petitioner from irreparable injury to his legal right, in this case the protection of the Rama Setu, for which a clear and present imminent danger is apparent.

[C] The balance of convenience is weighted in favour of the petitioner.

4. These two Writ petitions in the nature of public interest litigation was heard on 14 May, 2007 by the Vacation Court Division Bench, and after arguments for establishing the prima facie case on behalf of Dr Subramanian Swami the petitioner, on grounds of arbitrariness, unreasonableness, and bias in the decision making process that called for judicial review[(2004) 4 SCC 714 para 24, 28, 30; AIR 1996 SC 11 at para 93, 94, 95, 113], besides the failure to perform the statutory duty calling for issue of writ of mandamus[ AIR 1988 SC 1037, Praga [Tools], and after hearing the respondents, the Honourable Court was pleased admit the said writ petitions and to issue notice two weeks returnable to the respondents/ counsels present, who accepted the said notice.

5. Hence, there is a good probability for the petitioner of being entitled to the relief prayed for in this petition.

6. Satellite imaging photography of the US agency, the NASA, and the Indian ISRO have admittedly shown the existence of a 32 kilometer long and 1.5 kilometer wide Setu-like or causeway-like formation of shoal stones between Dhanushkodi and Talaimanaar, and moreover that the Union Government's Earth Science Department has opined in March 2007 that it is a construction and not a natural formation which document [see Typeset] has not been denied by the respondents. Dr. Subramanian Swami sought the specific direction and permission of the Madras High Court to discover official records of these documents under Order 39 Rule 1[(1998) 2 Raj. LR 120]

7. Hence, it is imperative that the Ministry of Culture perform it's statutory duty and ascertain if the said formation is an ancient monument within the meaning of the Ancient Monument and Archeological Sites Act[1958] for which this petitioner has written to the Minister of Culture. THIS DUTY HOWEVER THE MINISTRY HAS FAILED TO PERFORM TO DATE, AND HENCE A WRIT OF MANDAMUS IS CALLED FOR [PRAGA TOOLS].

8. It is an urgent necessacity for this Honourable Court to take cognizance of the attempts of the Sethusamudram Canal Projection Corporation in dredging at the Rama Setu, when they have yet to dredge 167 kilometers of the proposed canal on either side of the Rama Setu. There will be no inconvenience for the Corporation to first dredge the canal length on either side of the canal, which will take two years from today, before coming to the Rama Setu site for dredging.

By then it is probable that this petition would have been decided by the Honourable Madras High Court. Hence the balance of convenience lies in favour of granting an injunction restraining for the time being, the Corporation from damaging the Rama Setu [AIR 1983 SC 742]. Immediate grant of an Interim Injunction will safeguard the ever-permanent public interest without in any way jeopardizing the interest of the respondents.

9. The local authorities are also obstructing religious Hindus from going to the Rama Setu to worship because of this dredging work, thus necessacitating under Order 39 Rule 17 the grant of an injunction till this petition is decided.

10. There is no other remedy available to this petitioner other than injunction to prevent the damage to Rama Setu before this petition is decided [AIR1976 SC 2621, AIR 1990 SC 867]. HENCE, THIS HONOURABLE COURT MAY BE PLEASED TO EXERCISE IT'S DISCRETION ON SOUND JUDICIAL PRINCIPLES AND GRANT INTERIM INJUNCTION PROHIBITING THE RESPONDENTS FROM DAMAGING THE RAMA SETU AND TAKING NECESSARY STEPS FOR IT'S PROTECTION.

After seeing the through manner in which Dr. Subramanian Swami presented his case in the Madras High Court yesterday, I am reminded of the following famous story which was narrated by Justice Felix Frankfurter, one of the greatest names in the history of law. To quote the words of this very great Judge: A colleague of mine at the Harvard Law School with whom I got into a tangle about some question of law once chided me, indeed, closed a contentious argument between us by saying, 'you take law awfully seriously'.

I said, 'That is one accusation against which I plead guilty without reservation. I do take law very seriously, deeply seriously, because fragile as reason is and limited as law is as the expression of the institutionalized medium of reason, that is all we have standing between us and the tyranny of mere will and the cruelty of unbridled, undisciplined feeling'. I have no doubt that Dr Subramanian Swami's legal work ethic would have met with the full academic and moral approval of Justice Felix Frankfurter.

Thanks to the policy of Anti-Hindu minority appeasement and Pseudo- secularism of the UPA Government in general and the Congress Party and the DMK Party in Particular, the Hindus of India are being denied freedom of thought and freedom of religion, which have been granted to the Muslims / Christians as a special favour. In this context I would like to invite the attention of our Courts of Law to the following observations of Justice William O Douglas in USA: Freedom of thought, which includes freedom of religious belief, is basic in a society of free men.... It embraces the right to maintain theories of life and of death and of the hereafter which are rank heresy to followers of the orthodox faiths. Heresy trials are foreign to our Constitution. MEN MAY BELIEVE WHAT THEY CANNOT PROVE. THEY MAY NOT BE PUT TO THE PROOF OF THEIR RELIGIOUS DOCTRINES OR BELIEFS. Rank Anti-Hindu atheists like T R Baalu and Karunanidhi have the political audacity to subject the innocent and simple Hindus of India in majority to such a disgraceful state of dictatorial cross examination.

Dr Subramanian Swami has demonstrated that the profession of law is the only aristocratic element which can be amalgamated without violence with the natural elements of democracy and which can be advantageously and permanently combined with them. The Constitution of India is not a mere politician's document or a lawyer's document. It is a vehicle of life and the spirit is always the spirit of the Age.
